EDMONDS, WA — The Wolfgang Puck single-cup OCS beverage system has passed its field trials with flying colors and is slated to go into full production by mid-June, according to the company’s Don Stoulil. The system, which will provide an extensive line of Wolfgang Puck gourmet hot beverages and the novel CafeXpress brewer manufactured by Newco Enterprises (St. Charles, MO), was unveiled in the second half of last year (see VT, October 2006).
Stoulil, a pioneer OCS operator who served as a chairman of the National Coffee Service Association, reported that operators around the country, including two nationals, have been involved in the tests. Patron response has been very positive, he said; consumers are enthusiastic about the variety of drinks available, and their authenticity. The system also has gotten high marks for reliability and ease of service, he added.
Following last year’s initial launch, Wolfgang Puck has made minor changes based on early trials. The pod drawer design has been enhanced, for smoother and easier travel, and some internal modifications were made to further improve the machine’s serviceability.
A novel feature of the machine is its combination of single-cup fresh-brew coffee preparation with bulk soluble-product control. Onboard hoppers loaded with dark semisweet chocolate and a proprietary fat-free powdered milk speed and simplify the preparation of high-quality specialty drinks in a single dispensing cycle. Pre-infusion or pulse brewing may be used, depending on the requirements of the particular beverage, and whipper speed likewise is adjusted automatically in accordance with a stored drinks menu. The Wolfgang Puck line of custom-designed 61mm. pods includes both coffees and teas.
“Anyone who has done business with Newco knows how focused [founder and president] Joe Webster is on getting things right,” Stoulil observed. “Joe has spent an enormous amount of engineering time getting this right.”
Operator interest has been gratifying, the Wolfgang Puck executive told VT, and much of the production scheduled for the balance of this year has been pre-ordered. “Without a doubt, operators will find the CafeXpress to be the answer to their questions about pod brewers,” he summed up. “It makes great-tasting products and it’s a very reliable piece of equipment.”
The company plans to market the program, including the brewer and products, through its own sales force. Information may be had by calling (877) 777-1600 or emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
