ANNAPOLIS, MD-- The School District of Philadelphia, the eighth largest public school district in the U.S., has reportedly awarded its vending machine contract to Annapolis, MD-based Vend Natural.

The district has 220 schools. Vend Natural chief executive William Carpenter said the company's equipment will serve 134,000 Philadelphia students and some 20,000 teachers. v Vend Natural previously has won vending contracts for other sizeable school districts, including those in Baltimore, Minneapolis, Richmond and Dallas/Ft. Worth.

The Philadelphia district no longer allows the sales of carbonated drinks at its schools and is replacing them with water. Vend Natural is partnering with Cherry Hill, NJ-based Refreshments Plus to provide bottled water. It also will provide USDA-approved snacks and ice cream in machines throughout the school district.
