LE MARS, IA -- Wells' Dairy has changed its name to Wells Enterprises. The Wells organization produces Blue Bunny ice cream, a name well-known in the vending industry.
The name change reflects the company's new direction as a leading manufacturer of ice cream and frozen novelties.
Founded in 1913 and still family-owned, Wells divested itself of its fluid milk and cultured dairy businesses three years ago. Today, the city of Le Mars reports that more ice cream is produced there by a single company than in any other city in the world. This distinction was formally recognized in 1994 with the designation of Le Mars as "Ice Cream Capital of the World."
