MONTREAL -- The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office awarded AnywhereCommerce (Montreal) a patent that covers encryption technology that resides in mobile point-of-sale appliances.

In addition to the patent for encryption of mobile payment technology (No. 8,534,554), the company has received patents for its audio-jack technology, which enables any smartphone, tablet or mobile device to be transformed into a highly secure mobile point-of-sale terminal.

AnywhereCommerce's appliances support a variety of card-based payment presentation methods, including magnetic-stripe debit and credit and gift card payments, as well as EMV chip-card transactions.
