CARSON CITY, NV -- Nevada's state Assembly unanimously passed an Internet gambling bill on May 18 that directs state regulators to establish a licensing process for online poker operations.

Nevada's Internet poker-licensing procedures will be conditional upon prior federal legalization of online gambling, but will be activated on the same day that Congress legalizes online gambling, supporters said.
It's unclear when the federal government might legalize online wagering -- but many political and financial observers have predicted that eventually it will occur.
The U.S. Justice Department shut down stateside operations of the three leading online poker sites as of April 15. However, a federal bill to legalize and regulate online gambling -- originally sponsored by Rep. Barney Frank (D-MA) -- has been reintroduced with bipartisan backing. | SEE STORY
