CALGARY -- Coca-Cola is equipping its vending machines throughout Canada to work with a new tap-and-go contactless debit cards. The beverage giant said it will deploy the payment option on 4,000 Coca-Cola vending machines across Canada by the end of July.

Interac Flash, a secure contactless enhancement of the Interac debit card, allows Canadians to pay for items using funds from their bank accounts with a wave of their Interac chip debit cards at readers that support the technology.

Interac Flash uses EMV technology and the existing chip debit infrastructure, which protects it from fraud tactics such as copying and "electronic pick-pocketing."

"This first-of-its-kind initiative offers consumers the flexibility to pay the way they want for the beverages they love," said John Guarino, president of Coca-Cola Refreshments Canada.
