August 12, 2005: UVM Plans Golf Outing As Memorial To Romano; VAMA/NCVA Joint Meeting Set For Sept 21-23 Run; Massachusetts Association Awards 2005 Scholarships

UVM PLANS GOLF OUTING AS MEMORIAL TO ROMANO

CLARK, NJ - Universal Vending Management is organizing a memorial golf outing to honor the memory of Tom Romano, who served as the company's director of operations for nine years. It's set for the Hyatt Hills Golf Complex here on Monday, September 26. Romano, a 39-year vending veteran, died at his home in nearby Manalapan recently. He had served as director of operations for Universal Management (Westfield, NJ) for nine years. Active in industry and community affairs, Romano was a long-time member of the Automatic Merchandising Council of New Jersey and served as its president. In recognition of his many contributions to the industry, AMCNJ honored him as Man of the Year. All net proceeds of the memorial outing will be donated to the Romano family, UVM explained. Donation for one golfer is $175, or $700 for a foursome. Included are golf, lunch, cocktails and dinner. Registration fee for cocktails and dinner only is $60.

The event will get underway at 11:00 AM, when registration opens and the driving range will be available. Lunch is planned for 11:30 AM, and tee time is 1:00 PM. VAMA/NCVA JOINT MEETING SET FOR SEPT 21-23 RUN

GREENSBORO, NC , The Virginia Automatic Merchandising Association and the North Carolina Vending Association are readying their 15th Annual Joint Meeting. The conference takes place Sept. 21-23 at the Grandover Resort in Greensboro, NC. The meeting will consist of educational programs, fellowship opportunities and recreational events for member vending operators and their families. Networking events will provide the opportunity to catch up with old friends, as well as make new contacts. The annual golf tournament will be held at the Grandover Golf Club, voted one of "the best conditioned courses in North America," by Golf Digest.

 

This year's educational program, developed by the VAMA/NCVA Joint Meeting Planning Committee, will feature topics relevant to boosting the operator's bottom line. Sessions in the Boo$t Your Bottom Line program are: Keep Your Fleet on the Road and Out of the Shop; Knowing the OSHA Standards Could Save You Big Bucks; Prepare Your Company for an OSHA Inspection,The Operator Perspective; and Bottom Line Booster,Reducing Fuel Costs. Seated breakfast with table topics include: To Plan-O-Gram or Not?, Personalize with the POD; Know the Options,Financing New Equipment; Buy or Borrow,Options on Cold Drink Machines; To Fill or Have Filled?,That is the Question; and 200 Calories or Fewer,What are the Options? Other sessions are: Using Technology To Monitor Sales and Route Efficiency and Bottom Line Booster. Roundtable discussion topics will be: Purchasing Power, Training Techniques, Equipment Economics, Merchandising Magic and Compensation Costs.

MASSACHUSETTS ASSOCIATION AWARDS 2005 SCHOLARSHIPS

TOPSFIELD, MA , The Massachusetts Vending Association Scholarship Fund has announced its 2005 awards. The tax-exempt public charity granted a total of $22,000 in scholarship aid to 16 students whose parents are employed by operator and supplier member companies. The top award of $3,000 was made to Luke Gelinas, sponsored by Hallsmith-Sysco (Norton, MA). He earned a B.A. degree with honors from Calvin College and a Masters degree in Religion from Yale Divinity School, from which he graduated Magna cum Laude. Gelinas now is pursuing a Ph.D. in Philosophy from the University of Toronto. Four $2,000 grants and 11 awards of $1,000 each were made to other worthy applicants. Since its foundation, the Fund has awarded more than $280,000 in scholarship assistance. It is supported by voluntary contributions by MVA member companies, the proceeds from an annual golf tournament, and investment income from its funded endowment. This year's golf tournament is slated for Tuesday, Sept. 20, at the Glen Ellen Country Club (Millis, MA). Information on registering for the gala event may be had by calling Allan Z.
