BLOOMFIELD, NJ -- The FBI and a local prosecutor said an arrest was made on March 9 in connection with the Feb. 24 shooting death of amusement operator Joseph Rossi, 58, of Phoenix Amusement Co.

The FBI's Michael Ward, Special Agent in Charge, and acting Essex County prosecutor Carolyn Murray said agents and detectives from the county's Major Crimes Task Force, assisted by sheriffs, arrested Jose Luis Rivera, 48, of Plainfield, NJ.

The suspect was charged with murder, conspiracy and weapons possession. The judge has ordered $1 million bail.

A Phoenix Amusement employee found Rossi executed gangland style in his office, according to a story at Bloomfield.Patch.com by reporter Linda Federico-O'Murchu.

Prior to Rivera's arrest, some New York newspapers speculated that Rossi might have been killed by a man who reportedly moved in mafia circles. This alleged mobster was said to have blamed Rossi for informing on his drug dealing; the man subsequently took his own life.

Rivera may have been an enforcer or lookout for this late mafia figure and may have accompanied him at the execution, according to news outlets. | See full story on Bloomfield.Patch.com
