China Opens World's First Videogame Amusement Park

CHANGZHOU, JIANGSU PROVINCE, China -- At an estimated cost of $31 million, a new 56,000-sq.ft. amusement park called World Joyland opened here in late May.

The main attraction: themed rides that are intended to duplicate, in the physical world, the characters, terrain and experiences offered in the virtual realm by globally popular online multiplayer consumer games -- chiefly Blizzard Entertainment's Starcraft and World of Warcraft.

According to some reports, the park's owners may be infringing the U.S. game creators' copyrights. | SEE STORY

The park is also a videogame industry business center. It hosts such R&D facilities and promotional venues as the National E-Sports Competition Center, International Anime-and-Game Expo Pavilion, Anime-and-Game Technology and Derivatives R&D Park, and a Digital Technology High-end Professionals Training Center.
