MINNEAPOLIS, MN -- Now vending and coffee service operators can offer breakfast in a cup. General Mills Inc. is rolling out a line of Nature Valley-brand oatmeal that is prepared using Keurig single-cup brewers.
Each serving of Nature Valley Bistro Cups Oatmeal contains a packet of oatmeal, a packet of fruit and nuts, and a flavor capsule whose soluble contents are mixed with the oats when hot water is injected through the portion pack. The single-serve oatmeal is available in apple cinnamon almond and brown sugar pecan varieties.
The company will initially sell its Bistro Cups at Amazon and in Walmart and Sam's Club stores, with a broader introduction planned for fall.
Waterbury, VT-based Keurig Green Mountain is not involved in the Bistro Cup launch. Its patents for its K-Cups expired in September 2012.
Keurig announced a partnership with Campbell Soup Co. last September to sell its first non-beverage K-Cup product, a flavor capsule to make soup with packets of dried noodles and vegetables. | READ MORE
