NAMA's Popular Coffee Summit Gets New Name, New Venue

CHICAGO -- The National Automatic Merchandising Association has renamed its annual Coffee Service Education Summit, moved it to a new location and expanded the education program. Organizers say more enhancements are in the works to offer OCS professionals more incentive than ever to attend the third run of its widely acclaimed show.

Now called the NAMA Coffee Show, the event will run from Oct. 20 to 22 at Bally's Resort in Las Vegas. The first two OCS conferences were held in Cherry Hill, NJ.

Henry S. Givray, chairman and chief executive of SmithBucklin Corp., one of the world's largest association management firms, will deliver the conference's keynote address. His inspirational presentation is titled "The Passion of Leadership."

Givray is profiled along with other prominent American leaders of business, community and government in Randy G. Pennington's On My Honor, I Will: The Journey to Integrity Driven Leadership (208 pp. PenlandScott Publishers). The book presents a straightforward approach to earning and maintaining the trust of others by building upon the principles found in the Scout Law. Read more.

A much wider array of tabletop exhibits are expected at the 2010 show, compared with the two previous coffee summits, putting more office refreshment service products in front of showgoers.

An expanded education program, lining up 10 sessions, will include a 2010 "state of the industry report," along with several how-to sessions and workshops focusing on core office coffee service business concepts. "How to Romance Coffee to Your Customers," for example, will provide critical insights that operators can use to help improve sales in their markets. Details on additional sessions will be posted at namacoffeeservice.com as they become available.

Conference-goers can also sign up for Brewing Fundamentals, a popular course in NAMA's Quality Coffee Certification Program (QCCP). Participants will learn how to prepare a perfect cup of coffee by understanding everything from the correct coffee-to-water ratio to matching the particle size of the coffee to the brewing system, as well as different brewing methods and equipment types. After completing the session, the coffee apprentices will be able to assess and solve common problems relating to the final product: the taste of coffee.

"From the expanded education sessions to the exciting new Las Vegas location, attendees can expect a completely new and enhanced experience that will exceed everyone's expectations," said NAMA vice-president sales and service Dean Gilland. "The event will be the single largest coffee, tea and water service show for operators in the country and promises to be a powerful experience that delivers tangible tools, resources and insights to help this critical segment of our industry continue to grow."
