GOODYEAR, AZ -- An Arizona health organization has launched a "vending machine challenge" to encourage operating companies to provide "healthier" snack choices to the communities they serve.
Arizona in ACTION (Active Citizens Together Improving Our Neighborhoods) is challenging vending patrons to take "before" photos of any vending machines in their city or business, and then convince the machines' operators to swap out sugary drinks and foods for water or lower-calorie snacks.
Once the changes have been made, contest participants take "after" photos of the machines and submit them to the organization by Oct. 20.
An awards ceremony to recognize participating cities and organizations will be held at Goodyear in ACTION Day in Goodyear, AZ, on Nov. 5.
