Marsaplay, New CanastraALMERIA, Spain – Marsaplay, a Spanish manufacturer of dartboards and jukeboxes, said it has produced 25 prototypes of a new pinball game called New Canasta. Themed around basketball, it’s both a remake of a 1986 pinball and a platform for new technologies and features for flipper games. The game is not only aimed at hobbyists and collectors, but was designed primarily for professional amusement operators.

On one level, New Canasta is a remake of the original Canasta, which was manufactured by Inder, another Spanish company. However, the game incorporates such present-day technology as a flat-panel LCD screen that can display location ads or other advertising programs. It also has a camera mounted on the backboard that captures images of winning players and displays them on the monitor.

Other modern features include LED lighting and magnetic ball sensors. Microswitches have been eliminated, wiring under the playfield has been significantly reduced and many essential components reside on four large circuit boards. A coil protection system guards against electrical shorts and burnouts. Modular technology allows for plug-and-play parts replacement of key components like flippers, coils and bumpers, among others.

The manufacturer said the game's design makes pinball more reliable. Repairs can be performed by average operators, and they don't require specialized technical training.

Several features make the game suitable for the world market, Marsaplay reported. Among them are playfield instructions in English, operator-adjustable play price and ready acceptance of most major international currencies.
