DEERFIELD, IL -- Mondelez International Inc. is celebrating its first anniversary as a new company with monthlong festivities and volunteer activities for its 110,000 employees around the world.
Kraft Foods Inc. became Mondelez International Inc. on Oct. 1, 2012, after spinning-off its North American grocery business. Today, Mondelez International is a global snacking powerhouse with brands like Oreo, Nabisco, Ritz and Trident.
Throughout October, more than 16,000 Mondelez employees will roll up their sleeves to volunteer in more than 80 countries, following Kraft's long tradition of giving back. The month of community outreach will include Mondelez employees helping plant school vegetable gardens in Egypt, run nutrition workshops in the U.S. and pack food parcels for needy families in Japan.
Separately, a U.S. district judge has dismissed as "ridiculous" a case against Mondelez by plaintiff Monique Manchouck, who charged that Nabisco deceived consumers by describing Newtons cookies as having "real fruit" when they actually have fruit puree. "The complaint has failed to allege why real strawberries and raspberries in their pureed form are no longer 'real fruit,' " Judge William Alsup said in his Sept. 26 order dismissing the case.
