WASHINGTON -- The Amusement and Music Operators Association is sponsoring a webinar to update industry members on the progress of the U.S. Mint's research into possible changes to the composition of coins. That study was undertaken as a result of the Coin Modernization, Oversight and Continuity Act of 2010, in which Congress directed the Treasury to investigate the possible value of alternative materials or production processes in reducing the expense of minting coins.

Jon Cameron, director of the U.S. Mint's Office of Coin Studies, will lead the discussion on the background, research and development findings and next steps and timetable for the project. The event will be conducted by the association's legislative team in the nation's capital, and moderated by John R. Russell IV, a principal in Dentons' Public Policy and Regulation Group there.

AMOA and other industry groups have been paying close attention to the Treasury's study, and the July 22 webinar offers members the opportunity to hear first-hand from the individual who is leading the Mint's outreach efforts on research and development into alternative metals for U.S. coinage.

The one-hour webinar will begin at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, July 22. Industry members who wish to take part should email AMOA's Jack Kelleher at jackamoa@aol.com to ensure a spot, as enrollment is limited.

Once enrolled, participants should follow these instructions:

1. Log onto the webinar at a secure Dentons URL, https://dentons.adobeconnect.com/usmint.

2. This may bring up a message advising the user to install the Adobe Connect plug-in; that advice should be followed. It might take a few minutes.

3. Type your full name in the blank field to "Enter as a Guest" and enter the meeting room.

4. The participant also should receive a prompt requesting his or her 10-digit phone number. Once the number is entered, clicking on "Call My Phone" causes one's phone to ring; when one picks up the handset, one is prompted on the final steps for joining the call.

If entering as a guest does not automatically launch the prompt requesting the participant's phone number, one can dial into the audio conference at (866) 225-1342. The conference passcode is 1673323446.
