LOS ANGELES -- Larry Harmon Pictures Corp. said it has granted global rights for the development of a family entertainment center and restaurant concept based on Bozo the Clown. The new FEC brand will have a management team and board that are said to be industry leaders in food and beverage, investment banking, redemption gaming and franchising activities.
BozoWorld was incorporated in May 2012. Its management team will be headed by Dave Corriveau, a founder of Dave and Buster's Inc. As chief executive, Corriveau will spearhead the launch of the first location, called the BozoWorld of Entertainment, a 25,000-sq.ft. restaurant and entertainment complex here. As the name suggests, the FEC will be themed around Bozo the Clown, the long-lived character created by Larry Harmon.
BozoWorld is scheduled to open in 13 months, on New Years Eve 2013. The new company plans to expand, own and operate the Bozo FEC chain, and said it wants to partner with food and beverage operators to open up locations worldwide.
Corriveau, 61, was president, chief executive and chairman of Dave & Buster's before exiting in 2007, the year after the big box amusement company became a private entity. His primary focus at Dave and Buster's was amusement operations, new store development and conceptual evolution.
The "Bozo Show" was one of the longest-airing children's TV shows with over 300 million people having watched the character for 47 consecutive years, reaching approximately 50 million U.S. homes weekly. The live Bozo character continues to make personal appearances, and the animated "Bozo" series and "Live Bozo Show" remain popular in Mexico, Greece, Australia, Thailand and Brazil, among other countries, according to LHPC president Susan Harmon.
