NAMA Expands Education Options At 2008 Spring Expo In Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS — The National Automatic Merchandising Association continues to add options to its Spring Expo program, bolstering the early-bird education choices and streamlining the business sessions schedule during the convention proper.

The 2008 Spring Expo will be held at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center here on March 27 and 28 (Thursday and Friday). NAMA will conduct the first 2008 presentation of its popular four-day Supervisor Development Program in conjunction with the Spring Expo, beginning at noon on Tuesday, March 25, and ending at noon on Friday. Advanced registration and a separate fee are required for participation.

On Wednesday, March 26, an expanded round of separate-registration educational opportunities is on tap. The Quality Coffee Certification Program is set for 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, led by industry veteran Mike Tompkins (St. Charles, MO). Brad Bachtelle of Bachtelle & Associates (Tustin, CA) will lead a seminar on Profit-Enhancing Opportunities in Vending; it’s set for 12:30 to 5:30 PM. From 1:30 to 4:30 PM, Josh Patrick of Stage 2 Planning Partners (S. Burlington, VT) will lead a workshop on succession planning titled “Passing the Family Business.”

The Expo proper gets under way on Thursday, March 27, with a general session starting at 8:30 AM. The keynote speaker will be ESPN college basketball analyst Mark Adams, whose motivational program fosters team-building and enhanced organization performance.

The trade show opens at 10:00 AM and closes at 5:00 PM. On the educational agenda is a panel session on Health, Wellness and Vending from 1:00 to 2:00 PM. Moderated by NAMA public relations director and Balanced for Life team leader Jackie Clark, this will feature a panel of operators with real-world experience in marketing sound dietary choices successfully.

The opening day’s activities will culminate in the always-popular Spring Fling exhibitor-hosted party from 5:00 to 6:30 PM.

On Friday morning, March 28, five educational choices are available to convention-goers. From 9:00 to 10:30 AM, Newco Enterprises’ Steve Hyde will emcee the eagerly awaited Coffee Service Open Forum; Dr. Michael Kasavana, Michigan State University (E. Lansing), will moderate a panel session on “Cashless Vending: Moving the Industry Forward”; panelists include Glenn Butler of Crane Co. and Michael Lawlor, USA Technologies. Mark Manney of Loss Prevention Results (Wake Forest, NC) will present an overview of Loss Prevention Training, and  Harry Balzer, The NPD Group (Atlanta), will share insights obtained from market research into “How Americans Eat and Drink.” At the same time, a roundtable idea exchange will afford the opportunity for operators to compare notes on issues ranging from vehicle maintenance to route operations and optimizing productivity.

The show reopens at 10:00 AM and ends at 4:00 PM.

Information on the Spring Expo and ongoing educational programs may be found at the association’s website, vending.org. NAMA is headquartered in Chicago and can be contacted by calling (312) 346-0370.
