Free iPhone, iPad App Eases Gridlock Agony

Hank Schlesinger

KIRKLAND, WA -- INRIX, a provider of traffic information and driver services, is offering a mobile application for iPhones and iPads that might help operators and their routemen avoid traffic.

Called INRIX Traffic, the app plans routes by suggesting optimal departure and travel times, along with the quickest routes and personalized traffic alerts. It also analyzes such variables as sporting, concert and local events, and provides alternate routes around the event locations to evade delays.

“We’re putting the power of 100 million traffic reporters into the palm of your hand,” said INRIX vice-president of consumer applications Kevin Foreman. “Our latest release helps drivers never be late again.”

INRIX claims it covers more roads with greater accuracy than any other traffic service because it leverages a community of more than 100 million daily drivers and hundreds of other sources. These data provide accuracy within 2 MPH of actual traffic speeds under all 24/7 driving conditions, the company said.

The new INRIX traffic app is available today as a free (and ad-free) download from the Apple App Store. To learn more about the app, visit inrixtraffic.com.

Separately, the company has released its list of the Top 10 worst traffic cities and the average amount of time wasted by drivers annually in the gridlock of those cities. They are:

1. Honolulu (58 hours)

2. Los Angeles (56 hours)

3. San Francisco (48 hours)

4. New York (57 hours)

5. Bridgeport, CT (42 hours)

6. Washington, DC (45 hours)

7. Seattle (33 hours)

8. Austin (30 hours)

9. Boston (35 hours)

10. Chicago (36 hours)
