AGOURA HILLS, CA — Slingshot Promotions makes its bulk vending debut this month with a variety of inventive products directed at young patrons. Two capsuled novelty lines, along with figurines and flat merchandise coinciding with the release of the upcoming Wachowski brothers’ feature film, highlight the rollout.
The new Robot Warriors series consists of eight individually designed robots with pivoting parts. The articulated automatons encourage collection, fit in 2-in. capsules and ship in late February.
Also available at the end of this month is the Adopt A Kitty mix, consisting of 12 endearing feline designs. The collectibles are offered in 1.3-in. or 2-in. capsules.
Slingshot’s Speed Racer vending lines will be available in early April, a month before the release of the major motion picture of the same name on May 9. The lineup consists of figurines for capsule venders and stickers, temporary tattoos and lenticular cards for flat merchandise machines.
Speed Racer figurines will include four collectible toy cars, in 2-in. capsules, whose designs are modeled after racecars featured in the film. The tattoo and sticker lines will each offer 15 designs featuring the cars and visual effects from the movie.
Slingshot’s lenticular artwork is sure to add visual flair to vending machine offerings. There are 10 collectible cards in the Speed Racer series, created by printing technology that uses lenticular lenses to produce a motion effect. Each card is designed with two interlaced images that alternate and blend when viewed from different angles.
From writers/directors Larry and Andy Wachowski, creators of the groundbreaking “The Matrix” trilogy, the live-action, high-octane “Speed Racer” movie is based on the classic 1960s series created by anime pioneer Tatsuo Yoshida.
The original “Speed Racer” is the title of an English adaptation of the Japanese anime “Mach GoGoGo” that centered on automobile racing. The series is an early example of Japanese animation becoming a successful franchise in the United States. In the late 1990s, it made a comeback as reruns on the Cartoon Network.
The upcoming film stars Emile Hirsch as Speed, Christina Ricci as Trixie and Matthew Fox as Racer X, along with Susan Sarandon and John Goodman as Mom and Pops Racer. It is said to feature the revolutionary visual effects and cutting-edge storytelling that have become benchmarks of Wachowski brothers’ films.
Slingshot Promotions, which just merged with Fred Simon’s new supply company, Meters Management, licensed the Speed Racer vendibles through Warner Brothers Consumer Products.
