PARIS -- The 11th presentation of Vending Paris (formerly D.A. Vending Expo) featured a number of innovations designed to spotlight the ability of the vending industry to address the fast-evolving demands of today's on-the-go consumers. Held in the Paris Expo Porte de Versailles exhibition center at the end of October, this year's staging of the biennial show attracted 10,779 visitors, of whom more than one-fifth came from countries other than France, and 200 exhibitors.
Inaugurated this year was a themed exhibit centerpiece, the Vending Canteen, laid out to show how the latest vending machines and products, in a stylish setting, can serve as a complete automatic restaurant. Eleven "tasting stations" showcased a wide variety of hot and cold beverages; waters including still, sparkling and flavored styles; fruit juices and smoothies; a range of snacks ranging from stewed fruit and yogurt drinks through cereal bars and cakes; and an assortment of hot and cold food items.
An educational program complemented the exhibits, offering a multifaceted view of vending in France and international markets. Highlights included a presentation by Bernard Boutboul, Gira Conseil (Paris), which is a market research and consulting organization with 20 years' experience in the out-of-home food business.
An International Business Day, sponsored by the European Vending Association (Brussels), enabled national and regional vending organizations from all parts of Europe to describe the vending marketplaces in their countries. EVA secretary-general Catherine Piana led a plenary session on the vending market in Europe and moderated a panel discussion.
Among topics covered in two days of business sessions were nutrition, sustainable development, new technology and quality assurance.
Vending Paris is organized by Reed Expositions France and sponsored by the French trade association NAVSA. It is held every two years; the next show is set for October 24 through 26, 2012, again at the Paris Expo Porte de Versailles.
