SEATTLE -- Byndl Inc., a mobile transaction services company based here, and Sprout Retail, a vending-focused consumer marketing firm, have teamed up to deliver mobile payments, digital coupons and surveys.
Byndl's "Vending Cloud" enables vending technology providers to offer operators digital services to sell through both their machines and consumers' mobile devices. "The consumer relationship with their favorite brands and products will start at the vending machine and travel everywhere with them on their phones now through relevant apps or games," said Lori Salow Marshall, Byndl founder and chief executive.
"We see an opportunity for new, dynamic services associated with mobility in vending, driving up revenues and making solutions more cost effective," added Jim English, chief executive of Sprout Retail. "We believe Byndl's platform approach combined with the Bluetooth capabilities of the MDBlue device will add value to the market by letting each vending operator tailor services for their customer base."
MDBlue, with which Byndl has partnered, is a hardware and connectivity platform that leverages a user's smartphone to support cashless payments, sales telemetry, promotions and digital media. It can support multiple third-party apps through one hardware connection.
English launched Bridgewater, NJ-based Sprout Retail in 2009 to deliver new solutions to enhance the vending shopping experience while increasing loyalty and sales for the operator. Sprout Retail is a partner of the Vending Marketing Institute, a group of 17 regional operators that serve more than one million consumers in 14,000 locations in 35 states. The network includes more than 85,000 vending machines and over 200 foodservice facilities.
Byndl's team includes enterprise software professionals who bring a combination of data architecture and management experience to vending. The company said it will launch with additional beta partners over the summer ahead of its commercial rollout planned for fall.
