HIGH POINT, NC -- Microtronic US reports that its use of Microtronic Mifare terminals in micromarket kiosks has placed second in the "Coolest Mifare application in use" category of the International Mifare Awards 2014 competition.

MiFare is a contactless (or "proximity coupling") medium developed by Philips Electronics (Eindhoven, The Netherlands) in 1994; it has found widespread use around the world in everything from public transportation farecards to vending machine payment systems. Microtronic, based in Oensingen, Switzerland, has developed a popular series of terminals that accept Mifare media.

Steve Bryant, national sales manager for Microtronic US, explained that the company's adaptation of Microtronic Mifare terminals to micromarket kiosks represents a flexible, versatile and cost-effective solution for operators. The Microtronic terminals can accommodate Mifare stored-value market cards as well as payment options using barcoded media, payroll deduction methods and account-and-PIN transactions, allowing a system to be configured precisely to the location's needs.

"With 35 years' experience in Mifare technology for vending. it was an easy integration into micromarkets with our own software development team," Bryant observed. And the ready adaptability of Microtronic Mifare terminals to vending equipment makes it easy for operators to offer locations micromarket and vending service with a uniform cashless payment option for customers.

Microtronic US offers a variety of transaction stations, including the new Mini Kiosk and a complete line of cabinetry display units. The transaction stations can interface with a range of hot and cold cup beverage dispensing options, enabling customers to purchase a beverage at the checkout station. These include Cafection Enterprises' Avalon whole-bean, single-cup countertop coffee brewer and the Multi-max K-Cup vender, which allows the sale of premium hot beverages for the Keurig system. Cold drinks also can be sold by connecting the kiosk to a bag-in-box fountain dispenser actuated by B.L. Sizemore & Associates' Fountain BOB controller.

Information on Microtronic US micromarkets and vending payment systems may be had by calling Bryant at (800) 879-3586 or by visiting the company's website, www.microtronicmarket.com.

Designed for smaller accounts, the little micromarket transaction station is modular, allowing operators to configure it to accept a variety of payment media including cash and cards, and to add a receipt printer if desired. The Mini Kiosk joins Microtronic US's regular and "component group" terminals; the latter is built into a stylish cabinet equipped with product display shelves and designed for banking with additional shelves.
