CAMBRIDGE, MA -- Harvard students now have round-the-clock access to "must have" essentials ranging from toothbrushes, shampoo and phone chargers to disposable cups and ping-pong balls thanks to a new vending machine on campus.

The custom-built Momba machine, featuring a wood-framed glass front, is the brainchild of Steven Duque, a 2009 philosophy and sociology graduate from Harvard. He named it Momba for the role it plays in filling mom's shoes by making sure students have access to what they need, when they need it when they're away from home, according to an article in Forbes magazine.

School administrators said the Momba machines will improve student safety on campus, since they won't have to make late-night trips to a convenience store.

The first vender is located in Harvard's Quincy House dorm, and a second will be placed in Harvard Yard in the center of campus. Duque and his cofounders plan to expand Momba to other locations in New England.
