PENNSAUKEN, NJ -- J&J Snack Foods Corp. has entered into an agreement with ConAgra Foods to acquire that company's frozen handheld business. Terms of the transaction, expected to close in May, were not disclosed.
ConAgra's handheld lines include dough-enrobed products sold under the Handfulls, Holly Ridge Bakery, Patio, Top Picks and Villa Taliano brands, as well as private labels. They are produced at facilities in Holly Ridge, NC, and Weston, OR.
J&J reports that the acquisition will provide it with ample flexibility to meet changing consumer needs. The two USDA-approved manufacturing facilities turn out a wide variety of enrobed products from sweet to savory and "healthy" or indulgent, as well as individual retail and bulk foodservice packs.
J&J president and chief executive Gerald B. Shreiber said, "We are excited about this opportunity. This is a fine line of products that will expand our portfolio of brands to existing and new venues."
J&J Snack Foods, which is headquartered in Pennsauken, NJ, is known for niche snack food offerings. They include Superpretzel, pretzel fillers and other soft pretzels; Mary B's biscuits and dumplings; Daddy Ray's fig and fruit bars; Tio Pepe's and California churros; Mrs. Goodcookie, Camden Creek, Country Home and Readi-Bake cookies, and funnel cakes.
