LONDON -- The British Amusement Catering Trade Association reports that attendance at the 2011 European Amusement & Gaming Expo grew 9% over the show's first staging early last year.

Held at the ExCel Exhibition Centre here during the last week in January, the EAG Expo drew nearly 5,800 visitors, according to show management EAG Ltd. Visitors from the United Kingdom increased by 11%, including a strong increase in support from BACTA members. International visitors came from 58 nations around the world, ranging from Argentina and Australia through Brazil and Israel to the United States and Zimbabwe.

The show's planners observed that the increase in attendance was evident on each of its three days, and was especially marked on the first day. Operators of family entertainment centers and adult gaming centers were well-represented, constituting 17% of registrants, while pub and leisure operators composed 14%.

Martin Burlin, chairman of EAG Ltd., said that the great success of the 2011 event bodes well for the future. "There is no doubt that EAG is going in the right direction and this fantastic result will give us the encouragement to redouble our efforts for next year," he observed.

BACTA decided to organize its own exposition in order to reaffirm the importance of the amusement sector and identify it with an event of its own: "Pure coin-op, pure amusement, pure business." The 2010 and 2011 productions have validated the soundness of this approach.

"We will not be resting on our laurels," Burlin emphasized. "We will continue to grow the show by listening to both exhibitors and visitors. EAG is the industry's own show."

Next year's show is Jan. 24 to 26, again at the same location.
