CORAL GABLES, FL -- Del Monte Fresh Produce N.A. Inc. announced that it has entered into an agreement with Vistar, a division of Performance Food Group, to distribute its new line of vendible fresh fruit and vegetable products across the country.
Vistar vice-president of sales and marketing Terry Touchton said the addition of Del Monte Fresh's vending line to its 23 distribution centers and 13 cash-and-carry operations across the country helps meet the growing need for wholesome and nutritious vending items.
The Del Monte Fresh vending line consists of packaged whole bananas, pineapple chunks, apple slices, grapes, baby carrots, celery sticks and grape tomatoes. Some of the fruits and vegetables come bundled with lowfat dips.
The fresh-cut fruit and vegetables can stay fresh for up to seven days. The whole bananas are wrapped using Del Monte's controlled ripening technology, which slows down the ripening process and keeps bananas fresh and yellow for five days when held at ambient temperature.
Del Monte Fresh Produce Co. launched its vending line and a branded dual-temperature machine for them a year ago. The dual-temperature vender permits the bananas to be held at ambient temperature while fresh-cut products are refrigerated. The product line is also offered to operators for sale through their existing equipment. Recommended vend prices range from $1 to $2.25.
