ALEXANDRIA, VA -- The International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions said its president and chief executive Chip Cleary has decided to return to a private job in the theme park industry in early 2013. IAAPA board member Paul Noland, a former Disney executive, will replace Cleary in IAAPA's top post on Jan. 1.

From 1995 to 2011, Noland was an executive with Walt Disney Parks and Resorts. He also led Walt Disney World's financial team in various positions, and worked for Marriott earlier.

IAAPA chairman Roland Mack praised Cleary for restructuring the association's global sales team, upgrading its technology and critical operating systems, launching a program to defend members' intellectual property and overhauling its budget and expense management processes.

The chief executive transition process will begin this fall.
