CHICAGO — The National Bulk Vendors Association recently awarded scholarships to 10 students.
The association gave out $15,000 in total for the 2007-2008 school year. Two special awards were presented in honor of notable industry figures; Kathryn Cold received the $3,000 Ted Raynor award, and Anna Lisa DeMetsenaere was chosen for the $2,000 Elliot Folz scholarship.
The other eight winners each were awarded $1,250 on behalf of the NBVA; they include: Barton Bares; Lindsey Douglas; Evan Heon; Michael Katz; Jason LaVecchia; Megan teBogt; and Robert P. Wells.
The association thanked its scholarship committee members – Michael Applebaum, Diane Olson and Peter Fleck – for their hard work and dedication to the project.
The NBVA also is gearing up for its annual convention and trade show.
Set for April 17-19, the event will again return to the Caesars Palace Hotel in Las Vegas. Association officials are urging members to make reservations early this year, since last year’s block of rooms reserved for showgoers sold out quickly and some had to seek accommodations at other hotels.
“We’re looking forward to returning to Vegas for the convention,” said NBVA convention co-chairperson Jim Hinton. “Las Vegas is always a big draw for our industry, attracting operators from around the world.”
The association also announced that it is currently exploring the possibility of co-locating its 2009 convention with Fun Expo and the Amusement Showcase International, which take place during March. Details have not been released.
