IAAPA Cancels Asian Show, Citing Concern Over SARS

ALEXANDRIA, VA - (Posted April 23) The International Association of Amusement Parks & Attractions has announced the cancellation of Asian Amusement Expo 2003 on the advice of its AAE Advisory Committee. The show was scheduled for Singapore's International Convention & Exhibition Center from July 16 through 18. The committee warned that the continuing spread of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) shows how little is known about the transmission of, and measures needed to control, the disease. IAAPA's Executive/Finance Committee decided to cancel after considering the likely impact of the health aspects of SARS on the event's organization and conduct. "Due to the many continuing unknowns surrounding the ongoing SARS outbreak, we have come to the conclusion that the foreseeable health situation, in the affected areas of Asia, does not allow AAE 2003 to be planned and held under acceptable conditions," said IAAPA president J. Clark Robinson. Registered exhibitors should contact Linda Wan of Terrapinn at (011-65-6) 322-2749, or e-mail her at linda.wan@terrapinn.com. Next year's AAE is slated for July 14 through 16, at the same site.
