LAS VEGAS -- The Valley National 8-Ball League Association hosted some 5,000 players, sponsored by more than 150 operating companies, for its International Pool Championships. This year's 32nd annual event took place from May 24 to June 2 at Bally's Hotel & Casino.

Billiard matches in 34 divisions were played on 250 pool tables made by Valley-Dynamo, VNEA's main sponsor. According to VNEA officials, this year's tournament was greatly enhanced by the use of new software that allowed players to find matches and view results using QR codes.

Winning teams and their operator sponsors were:

» 8-ball women's team masters: Get Outtha Way! (Ondrus Amusement)

» 8-ball women's team regular: Kracker Jackers Arnal (Capital Music & Vending)

» 8-ball women's intermediate team: BP Cue Northern Lights (D&R Star)

» 8-ball sportswomen's team: Pete's Bottoms Up (Stansfield Vending)

» 8-ball open team masters: The Winning Stroke (Techno-Jeux)

» 8-ball open team regular: LPP-Magic (Billares Carlos Teofilo)

» 8-ball open intermediate team: Mixed Nuts (Kilmer Amusements)

» 8-ball sportsmen's team: Pool My Finger (SML Entertainment)

During the Opening Ceremonies of VNEA's 2012 international spectacular, new members of the association's Hall of Fame were inducted.

VNEA Amateur Pool Player Hall of Fame inductees are Dick Caldwell, sponsored by Iowa's GRE Amusements; Bill Ellis and Barb McKinney Kuchenbecker, who play with Minnesota's D&R Star; Pam Falcigno with Florida's Coin Drop Games; Gene Kapperman with Colorado's BMW Billiards; and Alain Lauzon, sponsored by Quebec's Alliance.

In addition to the honor itself, these top-rated amateurs received an exclusive Hall of Fame jacket and limited edition VNEA trading card set. The 2012 Class brings the VNEA Hall of Fame membership to 96 players.

The Valley National 8-Ball League Association, founded in 1979 to promote the game of pool on coin-operated equipment, is comprised of men, women and youth players, along with amusement machine operators and manufacturers. It's grown from 2,500 members in its first season to nearly 100,000 players today. Dave Hawkins of D&R Star (Austin, MN) is president.

Hawkins hosted the VNEA president's reception, concurrent with this year's championship program, during which the association recognized four longtime VNEA members. Presented with VNEA lifetime sanction cards were Rich Massa of Gregory Amusements; Scott Bright, All American Amusement; George Lyons, Shaffer Service; and Nevada's Jim Mason.
