BRISTOL, PA -- AMI Entertainment Network is launching a wide range of initiatives designed to re-energize the coin-op business. These include an extended warranty program for its broadband-connected videogame terminals, a new user interface for all its downloading jukeboxes, a vertical-display digital jukebox and a Megatouch puzzle game for 2010.
The company announced its three-year "bumper-to-bumper" warranty at its annual distributor breakfast, held during the recent Amusement and Music Operators Association International Expo in Las Vegas. This offer applies to its domestic Aurora Widescreen and Rx touschscreen terminals, built in 2009, that are connected to the AMI network. "This warranty program protects an operator's investment," said AMI Entertainment Network chief executive Mike Maas. "We strongly believe in the reliability and production quality of our hardware, and this sends a message to operators that they can believe in us, too."

A new user interface will be available as an upgrade for all AMI-powered jukeboxes. It offers a high-impact display, enhanced search features and intuitive operation, and is available to operators at no cost. The new system software, which is beta testing now, is expected to be running on all jukeboxes hosted by the AMI network by the end of this year.
AMI also announced that it is reinforcing its commitment to providing strong return on investment for operators through TAP.tv, a private television network that provides guaranteed advertising revenue through programming streamed directly into locations. TAP.tv offers participating operators a minimum of $25 a month, per location, plus a share of advertising revenue.
A new TAP.tv version is designed for single-screen usage and installs in 15 minutes. Simply called TAP, the new solution is designed to work with one HD TV screen and can be installed in 15 minutes. The operator simply mounts a small controller box, plugs in the power and makes an Internet connection, cable or wireless. It joins TAP Pro, TAP.tv's original system designed for large venues with multiple television screens.
TAP.tv – or Targetable APplications for TV -- allows the coin machine operators to offer their clients a custom television network that uses hybrid TV and Internet technology. It combines licensed program content and Web-based tools to enable businesses to effortlessly manage video resources and TV advertisements. Operators can use the system to customize and personalize narrowcast TV programming for each of their clients, and integrate that content with AMI-powered jukeboxes and Megatouch videogames.
New AMI hardware includes the Rock-Ola Rock Star Lx, a wall-mounted Internet-connected jukebox that, according to the manufacturer, "turns any night at the bar into an event." The Rock Star Lx incorporates a 32" vertical flat-panel touchscreen monitor featuring a split screen that is half user interface and half promotional display. Like all boxes running on the AMI network, it offers 650,000 songs from major and independent labels, as well as local "indie" artists. It can be programmed for scheduled auto-play and background music delivery, and may be networked with Megatouch countertop game terminals that then double as remote selectors.
The large-screen, wall-mounting jukebox measures 48" H. x 26" W. x 11" D. and weighs 185 lbs., and is supplied with a 900W. (RMS) Peavey amplifier and a wireless network router. The standard payment system is a Coin Acceptors 700-billstacker that can accept banknote denominations from $1 to $20; a credit-card reader is available for broadband-connected boxes. Options include wireless infrared or radio-frequency remotes, a second Coinco bill validator, and Sprint and Verizon wireless kits.
Also new from AMI is the latest Megatouch software, which features Jackpot Corner -- described as "the next step in the evolution of matchmaking games" -- and 11 more titles for the Ion platform; nine of them also are available for Force. The array includes Little Shop of Treasures, Stunt Squirrel and Text Twist Lightning, along with aesthetic updates to the proven player favorites Monkey Bash and Funkier Monkey.
"At AMOA, we wanted to show distributors and operators that we are as committed as they are to growing their businesses and reenergizing the industry as a whole," Maas summed up.
