Chuck Peitz

The Amusement and Music Owners Association conferred its highest honor to Chuck Peitz at a gala affair in New York City on March 14. Peitz is the first operator to receive the Man of the Year award since AMOA-NY began its award program seven years ago.

Peitz is the owner of Tricorp Amusements Inc., a regional operation headquartered in Somerset, NJ, and active in 20 states between Maine and Florida, including New York. The amusement vending giant is expanding west toward the Mississippi. It provides amusement services to movie theater chains and operates small family entertainment centers within other recreation and hospitality venues.

Previous honorees included Rick Kirby, Robert Geschine and Kevin Fritz of Betson Enterprises, along with Firestone Financial's David Cohen, AMI Entertainment's Michael Maas and Raw Thrills' Eugene Jarvis.

According to AMOA-NY executive director Danny Frank, a record number of tickets was sold for this year's event.

Among the special guests was New York City Councilwoman Diana Reyna, who chairs the council's small business committee. In a brief speech, the Democrat from Brooklyn pointed out that amusement-vending companies are among the 220,000 small businesses that operate in the city and employ about 1.5 million people, and that the committee is striving to reduce the costs of doing business in the city.

AMOA-NY was founded in the early 1940s to represent and protect the intrests of music and amusement equipment owners. Today, it is among the most vocal and influential associations in the coin machine industry. Ken Goldberg of PLK Vending (Woodside) is president. Joe Bossolina, McGee Amusement (Ridgefield, NJ), is vice-president; Allen Weisberg, Apple Amusements Inc. (Greenvale), is secretary; and Tony Elefante, Ralph Elefante Inc. (Lynbrook) is treasurer.
