FORT ATKINSON, WI -- Elliot Maras has left his position as editor of Automatic Merchandiser after covering the vending industry for more than 20 years, the publication reported.
Emily Refermat, who has been managing editor of the vending and office coffee service trade magazine for the past six years, succeeds Maras as editor.
Maras is a graduate of NAMA's Development Program at Michigan State University, former board member of the International Foodservice Editorial Council and recipient of the Office Refreshment Development Foundation's Award for Journalism.
Maras has taken on a new role with AM parent company Cygnus Business Media as editor of a new trade property, Professional Tool & Equipment News.
In June, Monique Terrazas rejoined Automatic Merchandiser as publisher, replacing Gary Thom, who has exited the magazine. Cygnus also announced that Wade Vonasek has joined AM as associate editor and digital project manager.
The magazine was founded as American Automatic Merchandiser in 1958 by bottling industry veterans Ben Ginsberg and Mike Michael.
Based here, Cygnus Business Media was created through a series of acquisitions, including Johnson Hill Press and PTN Publishing. The B2B media giant filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy in 2009 and quickly emerged from the reorganization, which shed $120 million in debt, down from a reported $180 million to $60 million.
