MYRTLE BEACH, SC -- A three-hour Super Technology session will highlight the education program at the 2010 Atlantic Coast Exposition. This year's event is slated for Oct. 14 through 16 at the Embassy Suites Hotel here.

The three-part workshop, set for 9 a.m. to noon on Friday, Oct. 15, will begin with a segment detailing the basic steps that should be taken when introducing new technology into a vending operation in order to expedite successful implementation. It will cover hardware and software platforms, and applications ranging from inventory control to route management, including static and dynamic scheduling, and cash accountability.

The second portion will provide a more in-depth look at specific tools that can make operations more efficient and productive. These include the data transfer standard, or DEX, and its role in accountability and sales analysis; vending management software and handheld devices that extend DEX into the field and the warehouse; and barcoding and planogramming.

The final session will address the challenges and opportunities of integrating such multiple services as tying telemetry into vending management software, adding cashless payment capability and route order prepacking, along with taking advantage of hosted services.

Companies participating in the program include Apriva (Scottsdale, AZ), Cantaloupe Systems (San Francisco), CompuVend Inc. (Metairie, LA), InOne Technology (Hunt Valley, MD), LightSpeed Automation LLC (Alpharetta, GA), MEI (West Chester, PA), Crane Streamware (Norwood, MA) and Validata Computer & Research Corp. (Montgomery, AL).

The always-popular Maintenance Training School also will be in session from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday and from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Oct. 16.

Other highlights of the program include the traditional Fun Run from 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. on Friday morning and a legislative review from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. that afternoon. The eagerly anticipated Awards Breakfast is scheduled for 8 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, followed by concurrent sessions on the basics of vending ("Vending 101") and coffee service for vending operators from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m.

This year's Atlantic Coast Exposition begins on Thursday, Oct. 14, with board meetings of the three sponsoring state associations from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m., the golf tournament at 1:15 p.m. and a post-tournament cookout from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

The grand opening of the exhibit hall is set for 2:30 p.m. on Friday, and a welcome reception is scheduled for an adjacent hall at 5:30 p.m.; both close at 6:30 p.m. Exhibits reopen at 11 a.m. on Saturday and close at 3 p.m.

Following the trade show's conclusion on Saturday, the fiercely contested volleyball tournament will take place from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. A finale cookout brings the 2010 convention to a satisfying conclusion from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

The Atlantic Coast Exposition began in 1955 as an annual trade show jointly sponsored by the North Carolina Vending Association and South Carolina Automatic Merchandising Association (now South Carolina Vending Association). The Automatic Vendors Association of Virginia (now Virginia Automatic Merchandising Association) later became a cosponsor. Originally held alternately in North and South Carolina, the event has been held in its most popular venue, Myrtle Beach, since 1970.
