Bulk Vending Show To Collocate With 2011 Amusement Expo

PHOENIX -- The National Bulk Vendors Association said it plans to collocate its 61st annual trade show and convention with 2011 Amusement Expo at the Las Vegas (NV) Convention Center in March. The NBVA said the decision was necessary in light of the association's declining membership, and to offer its members and show exhibitors new opportunities to expand their businesses.

The newly formed Amusement Expo is itself a collocation, merging the trade shows organized by the American Amusement Machine Association and Amusement and Music Operators Association. The first combined show was staged this past March in Las Vegas, where it was collocated with Fun Expo, which catered to family entertainment center businesses.

NBVA president Bernie Schwarzli, Beaver Machine Corp., told VT that the three trade groups were discussing a possible collocation for several months and were able draft an agreement acceptable to all parties. He added that the unification of the amusement and bulk shows will in "no way compromise the independence and integrity of the NBVA as an association."/

The bulk vending exhibit area at the next Amusement Expo will be marked by distinctive signage, drapes and carpeting, NBVA said.

In recent years, the NBVA has experienced membership and show declines. About 30 firms exhibited at this year's show in Kissimmee, FL, in April. These declines, NBVA reported, make it difficult to book locations and attract exhibitors. A collocation strategy with a trade segment having much in common with street vending is more appealing to both sellers and buyers, and financially practical for an association challenged by a tough economy and industry downturn. The bulk vending addition to Amusement Expo follows last week's announcement that Fun Expo, owned by International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions, AAMA and AMOA, will not be held in 2011. Instead, IAAPA, which is the show's majority owner, will produce an FEC-focused seminar program during the amusement show. Read more about Fun Expo.
