GAITHERSBURG, MD -- Sodexo has a new tool that will help its clients establish sustainability baselines, prioritize initiatives and track continuous improvement.
The Sustainability Management and Reporting Tool, or SMART, covers four key best practice areas: carbon and energy, water, waste, and healthy/sustainable food and environments. It enables clients served by the food and facilities management giant to analyze up to 150 separate actions that can improve measurable performance in each area.
Sodexo piloted the new software at 22 locations in the U.S. in 2011.
SMART users can estimate a facility's energy use and the associated climate impact. They can review their progress and trend data in either a summary "dashboard" or in a detailed layout. They can also view specific recommendations for making immediate improvements and generate customized sustainability reports.
Sodexo said more than 90 of the nation's schools, college campuses, healthcare facilities and corporations began using the tool this month. It plans to roll the solution out to 1,000 client sites by October 2012.
