BAY CITY, MI -- Gold Standard Games (formerly Shelti Inc.) has unveiled a novel pool table that offers patrons a choice of traditional two-player games and a new "3Some" option. The latter permits three contestants to play either of two fast-paced games, using a separate set of balls.

The Dual Pool system, licensed from Horizon Games Inc. (Massapequa Park, NY), can vend a set of balls from either side of the table, at different prices if desired. The players select the two- or the three-player ball set when they insert money. According to Horizon's Jed Forman, the electronic payment system also accommodates bonus price levels, promotional and happy hour pricing, time pricing, speed play and free play.

The new Horizon ball system handles two object ball sets with a central chute that has motor-controlled channels for each set. The channels release balls to their respective sides; the channel in play remains open to receive returning balls, after they are pocketed, from the common tracks.

The 3Some games are played with 15 colored object balls in three color-coded sets of five. Play options presently include 5 Ball, a three-player adaptation of classic 8 ball, and "cut throat," at which the winner is the player who has the last ball remaining on the table. Both are said to be "fast, furious and fun."

The Dual Pool table, which will be manufactured and marketed under Gold Standard's Shelti brand, is expected to appeal strongly to locations and operators, as well as players. It is slated to make its formal industry debut in booth No. 1115 at the Amusement Expo from March 20 through 22 at the Las Vegas (NV) Convention Center.
