LAS VEGAS -- Astrosystems has introduced a new model in its ST1 banknote validator line. The ST1-C (for Compact) is based on the original ST1, a versatile validator, introduced in 2007, which can be installed in upstacking or downstacking configuration; it is one of Astrosystems' Global Bill Acceptor models, all of which are adaptable to a very wide range of banknote sizes and designs.

The ST1-C is about an inch shorter, and half an inch narrower, than the ST1. This redesign simplifies its installation in U.S. equipment with traditional coin doors. Other enhancements include a completely illuminated bill entry in place of the ST1's flashing LED display.

Unchanged is the secure, lockable bill cassette and the modular design, which is said to permit stripdown in 30 seconds or less and equally speedy reassembly. Reconfiguration from one stacking orientation to the other can be accomplished by changing a single part. Both versions can fit into recesses as shallow as four inches.

Suitable for amusement machines, as well as vending equipment, Astrosystems' GBA ST1-C is available with all standard interfaces, including MDB. It can accommodate banknotes as wide as 70mm. (a bit more than 2.75"), and the manufacturer's software library can provide banknote recognition data for more than 90 of the world's currencies.

The ST1-C will make its American debut in Las Vegas at the Amusement Expo in March and NAMA's OneShow in April. "Cost-wise, the ST1-C will be affordable to the masses," Astrosystems' Robert Bird told VT.
