A 7.0 magnitude quake struck the Caribbean island nation on Jan. 12, killing an estimated 230,000 people and impacting the lives of more than three million -- including over one million who are now homeless.
Immediately following the quake, the board of directors of AMOA's Coin-Op Cares Foundation pledged $5,000 to support the efforts of Save the Children and UNICEF, with a challenge to commit up to another $5,000 in matching contributions. See story here.
AAMA's charity arm responded with a $5,000 donation of its own. In addition, numerous individual members of the amusement industry made solo contributions, helping to bring the total to $15,242.
AMOA said all raised funds are being divided between the two children-focused charities. The association is still accepting contributions. Checks should be made out to Coin-Op Cares.
