Oct. 28, 2004: OCMA Challenges Direct Sales; Kiddie Rides USA Sold; AMOA Releases Vol. 3 Of Jukebox Classics; East Coast Amusements, Global Coin Team Up In Boston

COLUMBUS, OH - The Ohio Coin Machine Association on Aug. 13 adopted a resolution expressing opposition to direct sales of equipment from manufacturers to operators. On Sept. 8, OCMA leaders issued a copy of the resolution to other state associations with particular reference to the sales policy of Incredible Technologies. OCMA stated: "It now appears that a long-established, highly efficient, four-tier distribution system (manufacturer, distributor, operator and location owner) may be in serious jeopardy." OCMA calls upon the industry's national and state associations to help "resolve this unneeded and unwanted controversy" through frank and open dialog. VENDING TIMES understands that members of the Amusement and Music Owners Association of New York are seriously considering endorsing the Aug. 13 OCMA resolution. IT announced its new distribution policy in June; it enables operators who are members of recognized operator associations to purchase equipment direct from IT using the same pricing structure as distributors. At press time, IT had issued no official reply to OCMA's Aug. 13 resolution.

DENVER , Entrepreneur Damon Carson has purchased Kiddie Rides USA, effective Oct. 1. The 26-year-old company will continue to operate under the same name with Carson's hands-on supervision. Brian Carasik will remain head of sales and all phone numbers will remain the same. KRUSA's current business model has emphasized buying, refurbishing and reselling older rides. Carson plans to provide refurbishing services as well to owners who intend to continue operating the same rides. Trades, trade-ins and bartering will be encouraged by the new regime; it will retain the firm's extensive parts inventory. Carson, age 33, is relatively new to the coin-op industry. In late 2001 he sold his successful Vail-area THI Waste Co. and entered the coin-op arena in September 2002 by purchasing a coin-op Laundromat. He may be reached at damon@kiddieridesusa.com.

SOUTH BARRINGTON, IL , The Amusement and Music Operators Association's Jukebox Promotion Committee has released Volume 3 of its Jukebox Classics CD Set. The companion rock music disc includes such artists as Bachman Turner Overdrive, Joe Walsh, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Quarterflash and Pure Prairie League. The discs, produced with funds from a rebate AMOA receives when members license their jukeboxes through the Jukebox License Office, are provided free of charge to AMOA members. AMOA jukebox operators receive five sets and may order more at $6.50 per set. Non-jukebox operators receive one free set. The association acknowledged Wes Lowe of ATM Distributing for his assistance in producing and distributing the CDs and JLO and the performing rights organizations , ASCAP, BMI and SESAC , for their support
