BELLEVUE, WA -- Coinstar began renting videogames on more than 21,000 Redbox vending machines June 17. Available for $2 a day are game titles for Sony PlayStation 3, Nintendo Wii and Microsoft's Xbox 360 consoles. The same venders also rent Blu-ray and DVD movie discs.
Initial titles in the rotation include action games such as Duke Nukem Forever from 3D Realms and family fare like Lego Pirates of the Caribbean from Disney Interactive. Additional game titles feature such familiar brands as Michael Jackson, Transformers and You Don't Know Jack.
Consumers can visit redbox.com or use an iPhone app to reserve the titles of their choices and pick them up at nearby locations.
Redbox venues include select McDonald's restaurants, leading grocery, drug and convenience stores, as well as select Walmart and Walgreens locations.
The rollout of the game-rental program last week follows a two-year test of the concept that took place in 5,000 locations. | SEE STORY
