RIVERBANK, CA -- The City Council here approved a policy change requiring that half the snacks in the city's vending machines be "healthier" alternatives to candy bars and sugary drinks, according to The Modesto Bee.
Under the new policy, the top half of venders on city property will be filled with better-for-you selections like yogurt, 100% fruit juices and pretzels. The lower portion will be stocked with conventional sweet and salty snacks. The new rules also require that healthier snacks be sold for the same price or less as the other snacks.
