BALTIMORE -- Vend Central, a cash-and-carry vendible product distributor founded in 1996, has relocated to larger facilities here. The brand-new warehouse and office complex provides more than 28,000 sq.ft. of floor space.
The company opened its initial cash-and-carry operation in a 5,000-sq.ft. warehouse, and expanded that to 9,000 sq.ft. as its volume grew. The recent move represents a substantial expansion, company officials report.
Vend Central pointed out that, in today’s economy, increasing numbers of operators are seeking out cash-and-carry wholesale distribution centers in order to minimize their own warehousing requirements and inventory levels. Using Vend Central’s facility as a warehouse helps them lower cash outlay and reduce costs.
Vend Central founders Wayne and Amy Bartholomee report that the steady growth of their business has been driven by independent operators. As medium and large operations consolidate through mergers or acquisitions, the Bartholomees have seen a resurgence of smaller one- and two-route businesses that can serve clients too small to meet the national firms’ volume criteria. And these smaller operators find a responsive cash-and-carry outlet to be especially advantageous.
The Bartholomees pride themselves on their ability to react quickly to their customers’ requests, expertly sourcing requested items. This customer orientation has fueled growth by attracting additional operator clients, they said.
