BELLEVUE, WA -- Starbucks Corp. opened the first store in its new Evolution Fresh juice bar chain on March 19, marking its first major foray outside of coffee.
Located here in this upscale city just outside Seattle, the inaugural store will sell fresh, made-to-order and bottled fruit and vegetable juices and smoothies, along with salads, soups and sandwiches. Brewed coffee and tea are also on the menu.
The world's biggest coffee chain bought San Bernardino-based Evolution Fresh for $30 million in November in line with its strategy to sell a wider range of branded products through its own cafes, grocery stores and other retail outlets. It was started by the founder of Naked Juice, which is now owned by PepsiCo Inc.
Starbucks plans to sell the bottled juice in its coffee shops nationwide. It has not said where it plans to open its next juice bars or how many it plans to have.
