BIRMINGHAM, AL -- Former electronic bingo operator Milton McGregor, owner of the Victoryland casino in Shorter, AL, was set to return to court on Friday, Jan. 27. He will again face charges that he attempted to bribe state legislators to legalize electronic bingo.
Last August, an earlier jury deadlocked on several bribery charges, but found McGregor "not guilty" of one count of bribery. The jury also acquitted eight other defendants or deadlocked on charges against them. | SEE STORY
Several days before the trial, McGregor's attorneys attempted to get certain charges dropped on the basis that prosecutors failed to provide documents to the defense. U.S. District Judge Myron Thompson ruled against them.
Victoryland operated some 6,000 electronic bingo machines at its peak. Bingo operations were suspended in 2010.
