7Up Eco Green Bottle

MISSISSAUGA, ON, Canada -- PepsiCo Beverages Canada is rolling out its 7UP EcoGreen bottle, which the company claims is the first soft drink bottle made from 100% recycled PET plastic in North America.

Recycled plastic is already in use for bottles of noncarbonated drinks, including juices and waters, but its use in carbonated drinks is more challenging due to the pressure on the bottle.

The new bottle, which will reportedly look and feel like any other PET plastic soft drink bottle, will be available across the 7UP portfolio in Canada beginning in early August.

The company said it invested $1 million in production enhancements in its facilities to support EcoGreen bottle production. | SEE VIDEO

With the eco-friendly bottle, PepsiCo Beverages Canada said it could reduce the amount of virgin plastic used by approximately six million pounds over the course of one year. Plans call for extending the packaging to other brands across its soft drink portfolio.
