SCOTTSDALE, AZ -- Apriva has announced its entry into a strategic partnership with Visa to offer cashless payment technology to vending operators in the United States.

Through the new relationship, Apriva plans to integrate Visa’s contactless payment feature, payWave, with its own proprietary secure wireless payment processing solution. This will give operators a turnkey method of processing contactless and other cashless payments made in vending machines.

Apriva is a leading provider of secure wireless payment technologies for financial services providers including banks, merchant acquirers, credit card processors and independent sales organizations (ISOs). This capability has enabled the company to bundle a comprehensive solution incorporating hardware, software, carrier services and ongoing service and support. Through its AprivaTalk proprietary wireless technology, the company reported, it is able to process payments faster, more efficiently and more securely than competing technologies.

“We are delighted to join forces with Visa to actively assist vending machine operators who are looking to leverage the inherent financial and operational benefits associated with cashless transaction solutions,” said Apriva executive vice-president Bill Clark.

“Visa’s payWave solution is an innovative technology that is considered the standard for contactless payments," Clark continued. "Our mutual belief is that the combination of Visa payWave with Apriva’s advanced wireless payment processing technology will result in a compelling, reliable, secure and cost-effective solution that will enable vending machine operators to increase sales, reduce costs, and enhance customer service.”

According to Michael Kasavana, Ph.D., a NAMA Endowed Professor in Hospitality Business at Michigan State University (East Lansing, MI), Visa sees contactless payments as a significant growth opportunity.

“It makes total sense for Visa to work with a technology provider like Apriva, which has the expertise, services portfolio and pervasive sales channel to meet the needs of vending machine operators," said Kasavana, a leading authority on the application of information technology to vending.

Vending machine operators interested in obtaining detailed information on the combined Apriva/Visa cashless and contactless payment solution should call Apriva at (480) 421-1230.
