WATERBURY, VT -- Green Mountain Coffee Roasters Inc. announced a price increase on all K-Cup portion packs for its Keurig single-cup brewing system sold in North America. The price hike takes effect across all sales channels Oct.11. Green Mountain said consumers can expect to see a purchase price increase of approximately 10% to 15% over the next several months as a result.
Officials cited a sustained increase in the price of green coffee, differentials for premium quality coffees, increases in prices of other raw materials and higher packaging and transportation costs as reasons for raising its prices.
Over the past three months, green coffee prices have increased from $1.45 a pound to $1.90, a rise of approximately 31%. In August, J.M. Smucker Co. raised prices of most of its Folgers, Dunkin' Donuts and Millstone coffees in the U.S. by an average of 9%, citing higher green coffee prices. Kraft Foods followed with price hikes on select Maxwell House and Yuban ground and instant coffees.
