ST. LOUIS -- Coin Acceptors has released the latest software upgrades for its coin acceptors and changers. The updates offer Canadian vending operators choices for reprogramming their Coinco equipment to accommodate the redesigned $1 and $2 coins that the Royal Canadian Mint will put into circulation next year.

The new software can run on changers manufactured as long ago as 1984, Coinco explained, and many of the upgrades can be installed in the field. The systems also can be upgraded by any Coin Acceptors service center. Changers manufactured on or after Aug. 1, 2011, already have the new software loaded, and are ready for the 2012 Canadian coins.

Canadian operators can choose among several options for upgrading equipment manufactured before Aug. 1. Operators running Coinco Guardian and Guardian XL six-tube models produced from 2007 forward can purchase an FP5 field programmer. For the Global, Global 800, Quantum and Quantum Pro four-tube series produced between 1996 and 2010, the FP4 field programmer is needed. Both programmers are available from local distributors or authorized Coinco service centers; the upgrade can also be installed by the service center.

For the Coin Pro three-tube line produced between 1984 and the present, the acceptors of all three tubes may be returned to an authorized Coinco service center for upgrade at the applicable charge.

"Change is inevitable in the unattended payment industry; that's why we have and continue to provide solutions with our customers in mind," said Chris Stegehuis, Canadian general manager for Coin Acceptors.

The company is very proud of its "future-ready" products, he added, noting that the ability to upgrade devices that are more than 25 years old is indicative of this design philosophy.

The company's new Arrow product line combines cashless payment options with DEX telemetry and route management software.
