MINNEAPOLIS -- General Mills has acquired natural snack foods company Food Should Taste Good for an undisclosed sum.

Food Should Taste Good, which makes tortilla and kettle chips, among other snacks, will become part of Small Planet Foods, General Mills' natural and organic products business, joining brands that include Larabar, Cascadian Farm and Muir Glen.

The Needham Heights, MA-based natural snack maker was founded in 2005 by Pete Lescoe, who will continue with the business as creative director. It has grown to become a prominent natural snack brand in the U.S.

"This acquisition further positions us for continued growth with a great new brand in an entirely new category in our natural and organic business," said Michele Meyer, president of Small Planet Foods.

The natural and organic salty snacks category in which Food Should Taste Good competes has experienced double-digit sales growth for the past two years, outpacing the growth of the broader salty snacks category, according to General Mills.

General Mills established Small Planet Foods in 2000 following its acquisition of Cascadian Farm and Muir Glen. Since then, the business has grown at a double-digit compound annual growth rate, the company claims.
